Pastoral Support and Guidance
At Sandbach School Sixth Form, we are very proud of the level of pastoral support that we provide to all of our students. Our whole approach is very student-centred. Unlike many Sixth Form Centres, all of our students are allocated a form tutor. Students register with their form tutor every day. This is really valuable from both a well-being and an academic perspective. All of our tutors are experienced members of teaching staff. They have had extensive external-training in relation to the A’ level Mindset, a programme which helps to build resilience and supports academic progress. Having regular contact with a form tutor, also means that we are in a better position to identify any students who may be feeling vulnerable and in need of further support. Every student will have a Personal Support Meeting (PSM) with their tutor at least once per half term. This is an opportunity, within a 1:1 context, for the student and form tutor to discuss progress and any concerns that the student might be experiencing.
The whole sixth form team operates an ‘open-door’ policy and we encourage our students to talk to us about any academic or emotional worries that they might have.
